HarborLight Communications

HarborLight Communications, LLC. is a proposal management firm with over 10 years experience, focused on government contracts and technical writing.

The ask.

To further legitimize their organization as an LLC, HarborLight sought out a logo and branding.

HarborLight was looking for a logo that would play off it’s name, implying success through reliable and steadfast solutions. In addition, they liked the idea of a patriotic color theme as the majority of the work is contracting with the federal government.

The Process.

The first step was to pull inspiration from where I could, so I researched logos, themes, and icons based around the concepts I discussed with the client.

Then I explored color palettes and typefaces to make sure we were on the same page.

After confirming with HarborLight what they liked, it was time to iterate, iterate, iterate.

The Final Product.

The client was inclined towards a Light House motif, so while I explored other options initially, it was natural that was the direction the logo would go in.

I knew the HarborLight initials, ‘H’ & ‘L’, would fit nicely into the shape of a light house, so I explored that option. It was difficult at first to find something creative but simple. I also wanted to make something people would remember.

After choosing a bold Serif font, I added that to the design of the logo, which have it the tasteful robustness I was looking for.

However, still feeling it was lacking the right amount of depth, I added curved stripes base, and a star to the head of the light house. To my pleasant surprise, this was the perfect opportunity add in the “Red, White, & Blue” color scheme the client was looking for.
